New year, new…..everything? Pretty much.

Launching 2012 with all its promises for improvement and change has a little bit more significance to me this year than it has in years past. While most of my previous new years resolutions involved lofty idea of imposing change on fairly non-flexible preexisting structures (“I will go to the gym 4 times a week, in between working for 50hrs, trying to sleep, cooking food, and not letting my social life disappear”), I have done a pretty radical shift this year, and eliminated the non-flexible structures, ie my day job. And honestly its a great relief. I have been meaning to do this for years. And while terrifying sometimes there is no other way for it – you just have to jump (something I decided to get tattooed on myself in order to try and live up to said life motto).
One of the more major projects we are embarking on this month involves building a home studio – yes. Really. And no, probably not in the way that you are thinking. We are fortunate enough to live in a Parkdale apartment that is larger than it should be for the rent we pay. Its an above ground, one bedroom plus den in an old Victorian with bay windows, and stained glass. Its the den that is going to be the subject of our renovation. I am surprised it not something we have done earlier to be honest, as it seems all we have done since I entered the picture of max’s life (no pun intended), has been to rearrange and reorganize things. But I guess it makes sense now that I am here full-time. It also makes sense financially, as it eliminates the need for space rentals for more simplistic solo portraits. On a selfish note, I am excited because despite the obvious benefits career wise, I now have some blog subjects for the next few weeks.
And for those of you who haven’t heard, we are hanging our first ever show at the Pilot Bar in Yorkville on the 8th of January. This show will run til early February, but we will be having a launch party on the 16th, so if you are interested in our work and want to come say hi, please do. We will be showcasing some work from a shoot here on the site (with a couple unreleased shots), as well as a completely unreleased shoot.
I know a lot of you who are here as a result of max’s old work were big fans of her DIY stuff. In which case this month is going to be especially treat filled for you, what with the home studio building, as well as the fact that we are mounting the framing of this show in old salvaged windows and screens, combined with the really exciting news that the Old Man (aka Zeebo) is making a return visit to the city. And we all know that when Zeebo comes around, shit gets interesting. Maybe I will even convince Max to write a couple of blogs herself? Better get those bribing scones on the go…
